What if I’ve accidentally started my engine?
If you've accidentally started your vehicle after putting the wrong fuel in, don't panic; there are still steps you can take to minimise potential damage:
- Stop Immediately: If you realise you've used the wrong fuel and have started the engine, stop the vehicle as soon as it's safe to do so. Turning off the engine will prevent further circulation of the incorrect fuel.
- Do Not Restart: Refrain from restarting the engine. Continuing to run the vehicle with the wrong fuel can cause more significant damage to the engine and fuel system.
- Contact Misfuelled Car Fixer Immediately: Call our 24/7 wrong fuel doctor hotline right away. Our skilled engineers specialise in wrong fuel rescue services nationwide and are equipped to handle situations where the engine has been started with the incorrect fuel (petrol in diesel engine, diesel in petrol engine or AdBlue in diesel tank).
How does the wrong fuel damage my vehicle?
Using the wrong fuel in your vehicle can lead to various issues and potential damage to your engine and fuel system. The extent of the damage depends on factors such as the type of vehicle, the amount of incorrect fuel added, and how long the vehicle has been running with the wrong fuel. Here are some ways the wrong fuel can damage your engine:
Fuel System Contamination
Different fuels have different chemical compositions, and using the wrong fuel can contaminate your fuel system. This can lead to clogging of fuel filters, injectors, and other components.
Lubrication Issues
Diesel and petrol have different lubricating properties. Using the wrong fuel can result in inadequate lubrication for certain engine components, potentially leading to increased friction and wear.
Combustion Problems
Petrol and diesel engines have different combustion characteristics. Using the wrong fuel can disrupt the combustion process, leading to poor engine performance, misfiring, and potentially damaging the pistons, valves, and cylinder walls.
Fuel Pump Damage
The fuel pump in your vehicle is designed to pump a specific type of fuel. Using the wrong fuel may cause the fuel pump to work harder than it's designed for, leading to premature wear and potential failure.
Electronic System Issues
Modern vehicles have complex electronic systems that control engine performance. The wrong fuel can cause sensor malfunctions and disrupt the electronic control unit (ECU), leading to performance issues.
And more… but no need to panic. Seeking professional assistance from Misfuelled Car Fixer nationwide can help minimise the impact on your engine and fuel system, and get you back on the road in no time.
